What is Artistic Swimming?

Artistic Swimming, formerly called Synchronized swimming, is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics.

Many describe the sport as a mixture of swimming, dance and gymnastics. The goal of every performance is technical excellence, artistic impression and synchronization with the music.

Competitors need strength and flexibility to perform twists and lifts as well as rhythm and flair to synchronise and interpret the music, which they listen to through underwater speakers.
